New Year, New Building.

Hi everyone,

Welcome to the brand new Stern student blog! I'm really excited to post throughout the year!

It's a great feeling to be back on campus with all my friends and a brand new year of possibilities. Though I had an awesome summer interning with Bpeace, I'm having a great experience so far developing a Net Impact chapter at Stern and TAing a Social Entrepreneurship class with Dr. McGrath, a class co-sponsored by Wagner and Stern. Though I've never TAed a class before, I think it's a really cool change of perspective.

Speaking of changes, I think we can all agree that the improvements on Tisch Hall is by far the biggest change on campus. The lobby, UC and LC look so different and much more modern than the original building -- I can't wait to see what the second floor Student Life and International Programs offices end up looking like!

Here's a short video tour that Amy and I put together of the new Stern :)

Life Decisions.

Hi everyone,

What better way to start my first blog entry than on a personal note? As the third week of my last semester at NYU comes to a close, I'm in the midst of making some serious life decisions. And it's turning out to be a lot harder than I ever imagined. These past few days have felt more like a teenage TV drama (see: Felicity) than real life.

Here's the situation: This past summer I worked as a marketing intern at American Express (the Consumer Card Services Group), and now I'm fortunate enough to have a full-time offer. Plus, they're giving me the flexibility to start in summer with the rest of the pack, or take advantage of my early graduation and start in January/February.

A year ago, the answer would have clear as day. Take the offer. Start in February. Now, however, it's not so easy. Maybe it's the thought of my looming entry into the "real world" and the beginning of my permanent life in NYC (versus Overland Park, KS), or maybe it's just my need to come home for a bit, take a break, and see if I can live without New York. Either way, it turns out I'm not quite as ready as I thought to leave NYU and begin my worklife.

Sigh. The pressure's definitely on now. Thoughts?

Talk to you soon,
Julia

P.S. I promise, I'll come up with a better good-bye tagline than "talk to you soon." Give me a few entries and it'll come :)

Welcome to Stern (I made this video)

Hey Everyone! Here is a short welcome video I made highlighting just a handful of outstanding student leaders at Stern. You too can get involved like these beautiful people. Check out the flyers all around Stern and come to a meeting you're interested in. Get involved!

Allow Me To Introduce Myself

Hey Stern Blog Readers!

Welcome to this brand new site with the catchiest name one could possibly think of. Business Casual. Anyway, I just wanted to start by saying my name is Justin Silver, and I love Stern. I am involved in a plethora of activities (and I use words like plethora) throughout Stern and NYU. My main leadership role and one of my true passions is Student Government. This is the second year I am serving as Vice President of my class and I look forward to staying involved in this activity throughout my four year at Stern.

StuCo, as its come to be known, is a great place to meet an awesome group of outgoing, kindhearted, and helpful people. But besides the people involved in StuCo, you also get to meet members of your class at events as well as upperclassmen who can serve as valuable resources in the future. And if that's not enough, the food is pretty amazing on Tuesdays at 12:30pm in T-200 or T-201.

Besides StuCo, I am a proud member of the Investment Analysis Group (IAG), an admissions ambassador for NYU (I give amazing tours to incoming students), and I work for the Wasserman Career Development Center as a Peer in Career. Throughout all of my activities, I still manage to make school a priority.

For example, my residence hall got tickets to see Bye Bye Birdie this evening, After a great dinner, a pretty good show, and a sweet backstage tour, I got to give Uncle Jesse himself, John Stamos a hug. I then jumped in a cab home, finished my essay for class and submitted it with time to spare... just a day in the life ;)

More to come, stay tuned.

Keepin it Casual,

Justin

Speaking of Excitement

Hello out there!

So it's a new year at Stern and I feel like there's some sort of excitement in the air, well there is for me anyway. For one, there's this blog, which I actually helped to develop this summer working as a marking intern here at Stern. I hope you like it! There's also this brand new beautiful building that I get to take class in (see Rachel's post below for the tour). What else?...Oh, I'm back in NY after studying abroad in Prague last semester, which was definitely the most awesome experience of my life. But, I can't wait to see what opportunities this year brings especially since now I'm a junior.

Speaking of excitement, everyone should checkout The Marketing Society, Stern's marketing club, of which I am a proud E-board member. Stern clubs are one of my favorite parts of the school along with the free food, tickets to Broadway shows, and cohort dinners. Anyway as I was saying, I've been in MktSoc since freshman year, but I feel like this year we've really kicked it up to a whole new level. We have a new logo, website, and blog as well as some great upcoming events. I think you should come see what's up at our weekly meetings Wednesdays during common hour at 12:30pm in UC-19. It'll be really cool, I promise.

I think that's all I've got for now folks.

Peace love and Stern,
Amy
