         <title>Undergraduate James Neely named one of NYU&apos;s 15 Most Influential Students</title>
         <description><![CDATA[<p><i>Washington Square News</i>, one of NYU's major newspapers, has just released a list of &quot;The Most Influential Students&quot; at NYU. Among the 15 students chosen in this list is our own <a href="http://www.nyunews.com/life/2011/12/15/15neely/">James Neely</a>, a senior in Music Technology. Neely is co-founder and President of the Black Student Union (BSU), as well as an active musician and community member.          <title>Scientific Magazine and others cover PhD Candidate Braxton Boren&apos;s Research on Acoustic Modeling</title>
         <description><![CDATA[<p>Earlier this month at the <a href="http://acousticalsociety.org/">Acoustical Society of America's</a> 162nd meeting in San Diego, CA Braxton Boren and his associates presented their paper entitled <a href="http://marl.smusic.nyu.edu/people/braxton-boren/boren_publications/conferencereference.2011-10-17.5119976309">A Method for Acoustic Modeling of Past Soundscapes</a>, in which they used mathematical modeling to recreate the listening environment of a 16th century church as it would have sounded back then. This paper received much acclaim, including coverage by:

         <title>AES Awards Given to Undergraduate Students Eric Xu and Ja-Ann Wang</title>
         <description><![CDATA[<p>Undergraduate music tech students Eric Xu and Ja-Ann Wang both received awards at this year's AES conference for their submissions to AES's student recording competition. Eric Xu received the Bronze award for the Traditional Acoustic Recording category, and Ja-Ann Wang received an honorable mention in the Sound for Visual Media category.          <title>Music Technology hosting AES 131st convention student social</title>
         <description><![CDATA[<p>The 131st AES Convention is being held here in New York City from October 20th-23rd, at the Javits Center. The Saturday of the convention, October 22nd,the Music Tech Department will be hosting an AES Student Social on the 6th Floor, from 7-10 pm. You'll get to meet students from over the world, eat food, and listen to some good music. The cost will be $5, and you can pay and pick up your tickets the week of the AES convention.</p>]]></description>

When: Friday, October 21st, 5:30-7pm<br />
Where: Javits Center, Room 1A03</p>

<p>Coming to the AES convention in NYC? Please join SWiTCH (Society for Women in TeCHnology) at the Javits Center on Friday, October 21st for a mixer you won't want to miss.  We are the Society of Women in TeCHnology, celebrating and supporting women in audio!  At 5:30, you can come meet and mingle with some amazing women in the industry, or just take a break from the day's events right before the Heyser Lecture. We will have some snacks, and you can also hear about some of the exciting things we are planning including starting a mentoring program for women in all aspects of audio.  SWiTCH empowers women to succeed in technology related fields, be it academic or professional, with an emphasis on music technology and the industry and arts professions. Come share ideas, network, or just relax after a day of workshops or working the exhibit floor.  Again, we will be at the Javits Center, 5:30-7pm on Friday, October 21st Room 1A03!          <title>Professor Saul Walker to Receive AES Silver Medal Award This Fall</title>
         <description><![CDATA[<p>Professor Saul Walker, who teaches Electronics Technology I, Electronics Technology II, and Electronics by Computer Simulation, will receive this year's Silver Medal Award from the Audio Engineering Society during their next convention on October 20th, 2011. The Silver Medal Award is "given in recognition of outstanding development or achievement in the field of audio engineering."
