Program Assistant - Job Path

We are seeking a persistent, organized and articulate person for an approximately three- to six-month project assisting individuals with disabilities in establishing eligibility for state developmental disability services.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Work with individuals, families, doctors and schools to collect required documents.
• Contact clinics to make and follow up on appointments for psychological evaluations.
• Draft letters to state agency in support of eligibility.
• Chart progress on multiple cases on tracking sheets.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• College student or college graduate ideal.
• Must possess highly developed organizational abilities, advocacy skills, and knowledge of Excel.

Program Manager - Asperger Syndrome Training & Employment Partnership

Program Manager
ASTEP is a non-profit organization founded in 2010 whose mission is to create and support programs that result in long-term employment for adults with Asperger Syndrome and high functioning autism. ASTEP is an employer focused organization whose goal is to create partnerships between employers and vocational support professionals to create a successful workplace environment for individuals with Aspergers/high functioning autism (AS/HFA). ASTEP educates employers about the skills and talents of individuals with AS/HFA, encourages them to commit to hire these individuals into professional level positions, and then engages vocational support organizations and/or professionals to develop the job candidates and the needed accommodations, provide onsite training to the employers, and job coaching to the employees.

ASTEP is seeking a Program Manager to:
• Identify and maintain database of programs currently supporting adults with AS/HFA, throughout the U.S., that will be able to identify appropriate candidates for employment, recommend necessary accommodations, provide training to employers and job coaching for employees
• Provide assistance to President and Executive Director in identifying conferences/employers for presentations on diversity and inclusion, including preparation of presentations
• Assist in the implementation of training and recruiting programs with employers and employment/vocational support professionals
• Conduct web-based research, reviews of periodicals and other materials to develop comprehensive resource guides and identify latest news in employment for individuals on the autism spectrum
• Prepare materials to be used for Advisory Board and Board of Director meetings; and for press distribution
• Follow current trends/changes in supportive services for adults with AS/HFA
• Update and maintain mailing lists for fundraising, media contacts, employer contacts and employment/vocational support program contacts

Full Time Live-In Companion/Support Specialist - Job Path

Two young men with developmental disabilities are seeking a compatible live-in companion who will share their three-bedroom apartment in Astoria and help them create a comfortable home and satisfying home life. They are seeking a warm and outgoing person who enjoys an active lifestyle. The roommate must ensure that the men are safe and healthy, and also create the feeling of a real home, where three people are sharing their lives.

The men require assistance with household tasks such as laundry, shopping, meal preparation, budgeting, and other daily activities, including help in the morning as they get ready for the day. Another important aspect of the roommate’s responsibilities is to help the men become involved in community activities and help develop friendships with neighbors and community members.

The live-in companion/support specialist will also be required to complete administrative responsibilities and maintain positive relationships and frequent communication with families and other service providers, and will assist the program director with administrative duties and planning for other program participants.

The position requires 35 hours per week of work, including evenings and early mornings. Hours are flexible.

Salary: $28,000/year plus health insurance; paid sick/vacation; tuition reimbursement after nine months; and other benefits

The women require assistance with shopping, cooking, household tasks, and other daily activities, including help in the morning, as they get ready for the day. Another important aspect of the roommate’s responsibilities is to help the women become involved with people and activities in the local community.

The position requires 35 hours per week of work, including evenings and early mornings. Hours are flexible.

The roommate must sleep in at least five nights per week, but is encouraged to make the apartment her home and has full access to the premises at all times.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Enable individuals to manage their households and their personal care, including personal hygiene, money management, and household tasks such as laundry and meal preparation
• Support people to maintain good health and safety practices, including use of prescribed and other medications, assistance with safety assessments and fire drills, and provision of first aid when necessary
• Enable individuals to become involved in community activities and develop friendships with neighbors and community members
• Help individuals to develop new skills in all areas of their lives
• Maintain timely and accurate records as required by Job Path’s policies and procedures
• Protect and respect people’s rights to privacy, decision making, confidentiality, and personal expression

Companion/Facilitator PT - Job Path

We currently have an opening for a COMPANION for a 25-year old man with autism. We are seeking a responsible candidate to assist with his daily living activities. He is interested in attending college. He communicates using facilitated communication. The position involves being his facilitator, i.e. assisting in his communication. To be successful in this position, you must be interested in a one-on-one relationship and developing a friendship. The most important thing is to be pals.

Qualifications: High School diploma or GED. Some College a plus. No experience and no certifications required but you must be a patient, caring and committed individual with a genuine desire to support and help others and must be sensitive to the needs and preferences of people with disabilities.

Mentors PT - Job Path

The Life Coaching Project at Job Path supports young adults who have high functioning Autism / Asperger's syndrome reach their goals whether at college, at home, or out in the community. We are currently looking for open-minded, empathetic, responsible and mature mentors who are in their twenties or older to support individuals at college, at home and out in the community. We are currently looking for part-time mentors for each day of the week and for all boroughs and are happy to employ the right person for one or several days.

You will be required to fill out a daily checklist which will be submitted monthly and to maintain good communication with the agency (Job Path) and family. No experience is required but you must be a caring and committed individual with a genuine desire to support and help others. Training and support will be provided.

NOTE: Some participants require wheelchair and/or personal care assistance.

Overnight Support Workers PT - Job Path

Salary: $11/hr. + Tuition Reimbursement

We are seeking energetic, responsible, and creative individuals to help people with developmental disabilities learn to function independently in their homes by providing overnight support and assistance with their morning routines. Support Workers are permitted to sleep when the person supported is asleep. Sleeping hours are paid at the state minimum wage. If the individual is awake you must be awake to assist them at anytime. Additionally, individuals need assistance with their morning routines which begin at 6am on weekdays and 8am on weekends.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
- Help individuals meet their personal care needs including assistance with preparing breakfast, showering, dressing appropriately, and cleaning.
- Support individuals to take prescribed medicine, complying with all medication administration policies and procedures, including storage, administration and record keeping.
- Enable individuals to achieve independence in all areas of their life by providing appropriate information, opportunity, training, counseling and support.

Additional Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED. Prior experience a plus, but not essential. We are seeking candidates who enjoy active, “people-oriented” work and are sensitive to the needs and preferences of people with disabilities. AMAP-certified a plus but not a requirement. However, must be willing to take AMAP course.

Support Workers PT - Job Path

Work with family members, develop connections to community organizations.
