 Facilitate group parenting skills sessions three days a week

In accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Amendments Act of 2008 and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation act of 1973, The Classroom Assistant position will be limited to activities that promote equal access to this student. This position will not entail any responsibilities akin to being a personal aid. Therefore, the main goal of this position is to foster appropriate classroom behavior, assist in maintaining focus, and provide cues to the student to stay engaged.

Responsibilities
1. Establish rapport with the student. It will be important to meet prior to attending class to establish a relationship and discuss in detail what the Classroom Assistant will be doing with the student in class each week.
2. Establish guidelines for in-class conduct. This student has struggled to remain consistent in his behavior in class. He tends to arrive late, listen to music loudly on his headphones, disrupt the class with inappropriate questions or comments, and move uncontrollably. However, with established rules and reminders during class, he will be able to focus on his work.
3. Develop a cue system. During the first meeting, establish a way of reminding the student about appropriate behavior (e.g., using note cards to jot down questions to be saved for appropriate times). Also, prompting him to reengage with the task at hand is an important part of this position.
4. Maintain communication with student’s parents and the ODS. This appointment will be funded by the student’s parents, and therefore the Classroom Assistant will be providing reports of progress and feedback to the student’s parents and the ODS. ODS will be involved as well to offer advice and support regarding behavior issues and Asperger’s Syndrome.

5. Before and after class meetings. In order to process what happened in each class, these meetings will be held weekly and will give the student a chance to work on improving classroom behavior. It is essential that all rules and boundaries be reviewed at least 5 minutes before the class, and a discussion to ensue after the class on what actually occurred.

The student is currently enrolled in 3 classes:
Monday, 9:00am to 12:00pm
Wednesday, 3:00pm to 6:00pm
Thursday, 9:00am to 12:00pm.

Availability during all the above times is required; however, if this is impossible, at least two of the classes must be staffed with a Classroom Assistant. ODS will also schedule a one hour weekly appointment with the Classroom Assistant to provide support and feedback, during the course of the semester. Classes will be held until Monday, April 30, 2012.

Qualifications
The ideal candidate for this position will be a master’s level student in School Psychology, Rehabilitation Counseling, Applied Psychology, Social Work, or a related field. Previous experience working with individuals with Asperger’s Syndrome is preferred, but not a requirement. The candidate must be patient, yet assertive and must communicate effectively in writing and in person.

We are seeking energetic, responsible and creative people to help developmentally disabled individuals participate in social and recreational activities in their communities and develop connections to their neighbors and neighborhoods.
Your role is to provide assistance to them as they work on paid and volunteer jobs and participate in sports, classes, social events and other community activities. Help participants learn public transportation, make purchases and handle money. Assist in developing friendships, and becoming contributing community members. Work with family members, develop connections to community organizations.

We are seeking energetic, responsible, and creative individuals to help people with developmental disabilities learn to function independently in their homes by providing overnight support and assistance with their morning routines. Support Workers are permitted to sleep when the person supported is asleep. Sleeping hours are paid at the state minimum wage. If the individual is awake you must be awake to assist them at anytime. Additionally, individuals need assistance with their morning routines which begin at 6am on weekdays and 8am on weekends.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
- Help individuals meet their personal care needs including assistance with preparing breakfast, showering, dressing appropriately, and cleaning.
- Support individuals to take prescribed medicine, complying with all medication administration policies and procedures, including storage, administration and record keeping.
- Enable individuals to achieve independence in all areas of their life by providing appropriate information, opportunity, training, counseling and support.

Additional Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED. Prior experience a plus, but not essential. We are seeking candidates who enjoy active, “people-oriented” work and are sensitive to the needs and preferences of people with disabilities. AMAP-certified a plus but not a requirement. The Life Coaching Project at Job Path supports young adults who have high functioning Autism / Asperger's syndrome reach their goals whether at college, at home, or out in the community. We are currently looking for open-minded, empathetic, responsible and mature mentors who are in their twenties or older to support individuals at college, at home and out in the community. We are currently looking for part-time mentors for each day of the week and for all boroughs and are happy to employ the right person for one or several days.

Two young women with developmental disabilities are seeking a compatible live-in companion who will share their spacious three-bedroom apartment in Hamilton Heights and help them create a comfortable home and satisfying home life. They are seeking a warm and outgoing person who enjoys an active lifestyle. The roommate must ensure that the women are safe and healthy, and also create the feeling of a real home, where three women are sharing their lives.

The women require assistance with shopping, cooking, household tasks, and other daily activities, including help in the morning, as they get ready for the day. Another important aspect of the roommate’s responsibilities is to help the women become involved with people and activities in the local community.

The position requires 35 hours per week of work, including evenings and early mornings. Hours are flexible.

The roommate must sleep in at least five nights per week, but is encouraged to make the apartment her home and has full access to the premises at all times.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Enable individuals to manage their households and their personal care, including personal hygiene, money management, and household tasks such as laundry and meal preparation
• Support people to maintain good health and safety practices, including use of prescribed and other medications, assistance with safety assessments and fire drills, and provision of first aid when necessary
• Enable individuals to become involved in community activities and develop friendships with neighbors and community members
• Help individuals to develop new skills in all areas of their lives
• Maintain timely and accurate records as required by Job Path’s policies and procedures

Responsibilities include:
• Developing, implementing, maintaining and reviewing the person’s ISP (Individualized Service Plan) every six months, or as needed.
• Coordinating appointments and meetings with service providers to develop the ISP and monitoring progression of person’s valued outcomes.
• Making referrals based on the person’s needs.
• Providing information on services and supports available to the individual and his/her family.
• Scheduling meetings with the individual at least three times a year including one home visit, or as needed.

Qualifications:
Educational: An associate’s degree in a health or human services field from an accredited college or university or a degree in nursing as a Registered Nurse or an associate‘s degree or a bachelor‘s degree who has a minimum of 60 credits toward a bachelor‘s degree in a field other than health or human services may meet this educational requirement if a minimum of 20 of his/her college credits are in health and human services.
Experiential: One year experience working with people with developmental disabilities or One year experience as a service coordinator/case manager with any population. The minimum experiential level does not have to be met if the person has a master‘s degree in a health or human services field.

Salary: Low to mid 30’s, depending upon degree and experience. Excellent benefits, including tuition reimbursement after nine months.
