Senior Supervisory Counselor Advocate- New York Asian Women's Center

Job Title: Senior Supervisory Counselor Advocate
Reports To: Assistant Director of Clinical Services

Founded in 1982, the New York Asian Women’s Center is the first organization on the East Coast to address the issues of domestic violence in the Asian communities. With the only 24-hour multi-lingual hotline and shelter program for battered Asian women, the Center provides counseling and advocacy to Asian battered women, children who have witnessed domestic violence.

The goal of Client Services is to provide the comprehensive direct services that support the recovery of survivors and their children from domestic violence and human trafficking. The intent is for all staff contributes towards client gaining self sufficiency.

Enhanced by the detailed understanding of the Counselor Advocate’s work with clients, the Senior Supervisory Counselor Advocate makes a critical contribution towards making administrative decisions and improvements to the division, such as revising protocol and procedure development. This bridge position between direct services and management is vital to the overall well-being of the client services division.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Supervisory duties such as group and individual supervision, monitoring workloads, assessing performance and training supervisees
• Educational coordinator and clinical supervisor for a group of 3-4 Masters’ level social work interns
• Development and/or improvement to the Volunteer Client Advocate program or Counselor Advocate Intern program

Chinese Speaking Counselor Advocate - New York Asian Women's Center

Job Title: Chinese Speaking Counselor Advocate
Reports To: Supervisory Counselor Advocate -or- Senior Supervisory Counselor Advocate

Founded in 1982, the New York Asian Women’s Center is the first organization on the East Coast to address the issues of domestic violence in the Asian communities. With the only 24-hour multi-lingual hotline and shelter program for battered Asian women, the Center provides counseling and advocacy to Asian battered women, children who have witnessed domestic violence.

The goal of Client Services is to provide the comprehensive direct services that support the recovery of survivors and their children from domestic violence and human trafficking. The intent is for all staff contributes towards client gaining self sufficiency.

The Counselor Advocate’s primary responsibilities are to ensure all clients receive prompt and professional services and provide therapeutic support that encourages self- sufficiency and empowerment.

Primary Responsibilities:

- Manage a caseload of clients in which one conducts assessments, empowerment counseling services, and crisis intervention.
- Ensure that clients receive advocacy and accompaniment – either directly from the Counselor Advocate or with assistance of a volunteer - to gain rights in family and criminal court, welfare office and attorney’s offices.

Counselor Advocate (Safety First Project) - New York Asian Women's Center

Reports To: Supervisory Counselor Advocate or Senior Supervisory Counselor Advocate

The Counselor Advocate’s primary responsibilities are to ensure all clients receive prompt and professional services and provide therapeutic support that encourages self- sufficiency and empowerment.

Primary Responsibilities:

- Primary Counselor Advocate for the Safety First project; assist the Trainer/Project Coordinator with project management and training and provide on-site domestic violence services at various hospital and health clinic sites.
- Manage a caseload of clients in which one conducts assessments, empowerment counseling services (including groups), crisis intervention, and language interpretation

Mobile Financial Counselor - East River Development Alliance

Long Island City, New York

Founded in 2004, the East River Development Alliance (ERDA) is an innovative nonprofit organization located in Long Island City, Queens (five minutes from Midtown) working to transform and improve New York City public housing neighborhoods by providing residents with the tools and opportunities necessary for economic stability and mobility.

The Financial Fitness Program was launched in January 2007 to address the full continuum of financial education and asset building support and services for low income earners. ERDA is currently seeking a Financial Counselor to join its Financial Fitness Team. ERDA’s Financial Counselors help program participants re-examine their beliefs about money, credit, saving and spending, and come up with ways to align their financial habits with their short and long-term financial goals. From changing participants' attitudes towards their financial futures and goal setting, to credit repair and debt management, to long-term asset building through homeownership, higher education, retirement planning and small business development, the FFP provides a range of financial education services that are tailored to the needs of individual program participants.

The Financial Counselor will be responsible for conducting independent counseling, meeting and exceeding all programmatic goals, and furthering the Financial Fitness Program’s mission of providing clients with the tools for financial empowerment. Financial counselors will also have a strong presence in the communities that they serve, working with ERDA community organizers in conducting outreach and supporting our goal of providing regular financial education seminar offerings.
