One Thing I Love-One Thing I Hate: 2/13/09

Day Two of the rest of your lives…

One Thing I Love: Joaquin Phoenix

I don’t know when Joaquin Phoenix decided against becoming the next Marlon Brando in favor of becoming the next Andy Kaufman, but I’m loving the transition. The word is that it is probably for a forthcoming mockumentary about celebrities that go off the rails, but regardless, I’m entertained.

Here’s the best moment of the transformation thus far. Phoenix’s amazing Letterman appearance from this week.

One Thing I Hate: Polling On the Economy

image4777981g.jpg

Gallup’s polling on the proposed stimulus package shows that 59% of Americans support the proposal. Now the GOP has been pointing to this poll as one reason for their opposition to the package. But I think this is beside the point. The United States economy has been run by honest-to-goodness financial geniuses for quite some time. Even during the Bush years, Alan Greenspan was running things and few would dispute his intelligence when it comes to economics, they may disagree with his policies, but not his intelligence. Yet despite people who understand Economics at freakishly high levels, we now find ourselves in this mess. The idea that what the American people can understand the nuances of economic policy in a depression like this one is absurd. So, I invite you to ignore any polling data with regard to the stimulus. Thanks.
