On Wednesday, September 23, 2009 there was a pre-construction meeting with the community regarding the 58 Washington Square South project.
As discussed, the mobilization of the site has begun. The scope of work includes the installation of the construction fence along the perimeter, a protective pedestrian walkway, the installation of a sidewalk bridge on WSS that will have the construction office on top of it and another sidewalk bridge along a small part of West 3rd street.
There will be a loss of parking along the west side of Thompson Street and the North side of West 3rd Street during this project. Excavation and work on the foundation will begin over the next few weeks and continue through Spring 2010. Once this scope of work is completed, work will begin on the construction of the building. The project is expected to be completed in Spring 2012.
Some of the concerns that were brought to the University's attention included:
- Vibrations - There will be vibration monitoring of the site and the University will take every precaution necessary to ensure not only the safety of our site, but the surrounding community as well.
- Dust Mitigation - The site will be misted before and during work to mitigate dust.
- Rodent Mitigation - Traps will be set and we will monitor the situation throughout the project.
