Project Update
September 3, 2009

Construction continues as the building nears completion. Most exterior construction has been completed with the exception of work on the lower roof deck, which is scheduled to being the week of September 8, 2009. The Ipe (ironwood) deck and fence will be installed within the next week. Interior build out continues and is scheduled to be completed and ready for occupancy in mid September.

Crane Delivery
August 4, 2009

A crane is scheduled to lift HVAC and mechanical equipment to the roof of 19 Washington Square South on Sunday, August 9, 2009. The crane will be located on Washington Square North between Washington Square West and Washington Square East.

Because of the location of the crane, entrance to Public Garage Washington Square North will be blocked. For access to the garage, please use the Eight Street Entrance/Exit.

Scaffolding is scheduled to be removed in the front of the building this month and framing and installing the sheet rock on some of the floors will continue for the next few weeks. Additional work is scheduled in the evenings and on Saturdays to keep the project on schedule and ready for occupancy in September.

Exterior work is almost complete at 19 WSN. Over the next few weeks the roof will be completed as well as the installation of the windows, doors and façade repairs. During this time interior construction will continue as the floors are framed and elevator is installed. There will be additional delivery of materials and equipment throughout the month as the building is in the final stages of construction.

Over the next few weeks, increased activity is expected at the work site for the construction of the interior floors. The framing of the lower floors has started and will continue floor by floor as the concrete is poured and steel is installed for the upper floors. The west chimney has been removed and the roof is being prepared for upcoming work.

Work on the east wall is scheduled to repair and install three windows. Extended work hours during the week and work on Saturdays will continue to stay on schedule.

May 22, 2009

Construction continues on the interior upper floors of the building. Once complete, framing and constructing the interior layout of the building will begin.

In order for the project to remain on schedule, additional weekend work on Saturdays is scheduled and work hours during the week will be extended. This Saturday, May 23, 2009, they will remove all the exterior windows.

There will be NO work on Monday, May 25, 2009 in observance of Memorial Day.

Work hours for the 19 Washington Square North project have been extended to include work past 6PM. Most after-hours work will be limited to the interior. There will also be additional work on Saturdays from 9AM-5PM until further notice.

Interior brick work has been scheduled this week until 10PM at 19 Washington Square North. All work is confined to the interior and should be quiet.

Interior construction continues. Protection on the east side of the building will be installed at 2 Fifth Avenue on the terrace above the parking garage and will remain temporarily while work is being done on the east wall.

Steel Delivery
April 9, 2009

There will be a steel delivery on Monday, April 13, 2009 from 7AM-9:30AM. The sidewalk will be temporarily closed during this time and will re-open as soon as the delivery is complete. There will be a flag-man to assist with directing pedestrians safely around the work site.

April 1, 2009

Steel is scheduled to be delivered as they begin to pour the concrete for the floors in 19 Washington Square North. Temporary sidewalk closures may be required during deliveries as a large flatbed truck with a lift will be used to raise materials into the building.

Abatement continues on the roof at 19 Washington Square North. During the next week, contractors will continue to install steel and pour cement for the lower floors in the building.

Abatement will begin Monday, March 9, 2009 on the roof and exterior of the building. This work is weather dependent and projected to last 3-4 weeks. They will continue to install steel in the lower levels of the building prior to constructing the floors.

On Monday, February 16, 2009 there will be steel deliveries on Washington Square North. Scaffolding is scheduled to be installed in the next week prior to roof work, which is projected to begin later this month

Interior Demolition Nearing Completion
January 28, 2009

The renovation project at 19 WSN is in the final stages of interior demolition. Beginning the week of February 2, 2009 scaffolding will be installed for upcoming roof and exterior work in front of the building. Also, there will be some additional excavation work in preparation for concrete footings to be poured.

Holiday Schedule Update
December 20, 2008

The next 2 weeks the construction team will continue the interior demolition. The shoring has been installed and the removal of floors will begin next week. There will be a packer truck parked in front of 19 Washington Square North during this time.

Construction Update: Demolition
October 23, 2008

The interior demolition phase of the project is scheduled to begin Thursday, October 23rd. A demolition truck will be in front of 19 WSN to expedite the removal debris.

Landmarks Preservation Commission Hearing
October 10, 2008

There is a Landmarks Preservation Commission hearing scheduled on Tuesday, October 15th at 12pm at One Centre Street, 9th Floor North to discuss the proposed renovations to 19 Washington Square North.

Front Garden Tree Removal
July 30, 2008

Prior to construction work at 19 Washington Square North, a certified arborist from Care of Trees examined the two existing trees in the front garden.

The London Planetree on the east side of the property is in good health and will remain. Unfortunately, the Norway Maple on the west side of the garden has significant decay in the roots and lower stem. Based upon this report the tree will be removed on August 13, 2008.

The University recognizes how important trees are to the quality of life in the neighborhood and is committed to planting a new, healthy tree when construction is completed.

July 21, 2008

A renovation project at 19 Washington Square North will begin in early August, which will convert the existing residential building to house conference rooms, multimedia facilities, offices, and a welcome center for students and faculty.

  • Work is scheduled to commence on August 4, 2008 with a projected completion date in September 2009.
  • Work will be conducted during normal working hours from 8 AM – 6 PM, Monday through Friday. If work is performed outside these hours or on weekends then advance notice will be given.
  • The first phase will remove existing interior and limited exterior fixtures (i.e. walls, flooring, and abatement will take place during this time).
  • The second phase will renovate the interior and exterior of the building.
  • The third phase will complete final touches to the building (flooring, electrical, painting, etc.).
