MICA Coordinator - Bowery Residents' Committee

Numerous circumstances lead to homelessness, and BRC has developed a diverse array of residential communities where individuals can address the challenges that have impeded their ability to find and keep a home.

The Reception Center is a 57-bed residence for mentally ill men and women who have been living in public spaces. While residing in this program, individuals gain insight into their illness, and develop the skills to manage their health and live independently.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assess all referred clients to determine appropriateness for admission. Manage intake data and prepare reports. Network with referral sources. Serve as senior on-site manager on Sundays. Facilitate substance abuse groups. Oversee the Aftercare Program and supervise the Housing Retention Specialist. Provide case management to a caseload of five clients. Assist with development and implementation of program goals and objective as part of the management team.

Team Leader - Bowery Residents' Committee

ABOUT BRC OUTREACH:
BRC Homeless Outreach works around the clock, motivating homeless individuals sleeping in public spaces to take a step toward reclaiming their life. Outreach offers a hand-up, not hand-out, and every 5 hours of every day a person who once lived in a public space accepts our outstretched hand and takes a step inside. BRC also trains volunteers who commit to a regular schedule, to work side-by-side with our outreach teams, several hours a week. And BRC operates the 24-hour Homeless Helpline (212-533-5151), which our fellow New Yorkers use to do their part to bring people they see on the streets into the BRC circle.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Serve as the lead supervisor for the shift or team. When needed act as liaison with the Port Authority Police and other key stake holders. Train Outreach Specialists in the basic elements of outreach engagement and placement services. Responsible for making critical decisions regarding outreach strategies, handling of client crisis, care coordination, and will be responsible to perform crisis intervention during assigned shift. Provide individual and group clinical supervision to Outreach Specialists and will be primarily responsible for carrying out any additional activities assigned during shift. Recreation/MICA Specialist - Bowery Residents' Committee

ABOUT THE PROGRAM:
Numerous circumstances lead to homelessness, and BRC has developed a diverse array of residential communities where individuals can address the challenges that have impeded their ability to find and keep a home.

BRC operates several residences for individuals living with mental illness. Fulton House is one of three BRC residential programs with a combined capacity of 104 which are licensed by the New York State Office of Mental Health as Community Residences. While residing in these programs, individuals gain insight into their illness, and develop the skills to manage their health and live independently. Many resume their educations, and obtain employment. As their health and confidence improves, they graduate to their own apartment or to a shared-living program.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Plan and participate in recreational activities in house and within the community; escort residents to various entitlements appointments; facilitate workshops related to life skills; assist with the scheduling of events and weekly social planning of groups; attend various interdisciplinary meetings in house and in the community (hospitals, treatment facilities, day treatment, etc.). Document progress notes weekly; obtain toxicology screenings; drive residents to detox and rehab facilities. Related duties as assigned.

The Metropolitan Apartment Program is a shared-living program. At MAP, 87 individuals who have made great progress in their treatment are given the opportunity, under supervision, to demonstrate their ability to integrate into the community and live independently in an apartment, on their own or with a peer.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM:
Preventing homelessness, incarceration and relapse is as important as responding to it. For the seriously and persistently mentally ill, there is the Continuing Day Treatment Program (licensed by the New York State Office of Mental Health). This program offers individuals committed to maintaining their sobriety, their mental health – and very often both – a safe space to go every weekday – and most evenings. Here, they gain insight into their illness, participate in skill development activities, and develop social support networks.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reporting to the Deputy Executive Director for Treatment Services this position oversees the Mental Health Continuing Day Treatment Program. Responsible for all aspects of the day-to-day operation of program serving approximately 40 severely and persistently mental ill adults located in Manhattan’s Lower Eastside. Supervise clinical and other program staff. Responsible for ensuring continuous compliance with state funding and Medicaid service requirements including the internal BRC reporting and performance management system. Social Worker
