Fresh Start Program Coordinator

Working Days: Monday to Friday
Hours: Monday-Friday 10-6pm

JOB SUMMARY:
The YWCA of the City of New York After School Program at Murry Bergtraum High School is a dynamic program that works to help students develop the intellectual curiosity, academic ability, and social values to ensure success in school, career and life. Our core mission is to empower women and eliminate racism.

The YWCA of the City of New York is seeking a passionate, dynamic program coordinator to develop and facilitate programming for at risk high school freshmen. The coordinator will assist students with the emotional and physical adjustments and demands of the high school experience. Additionally, he/she will develop and facilitate programs and groups that will help students to recognize their resources and assets. Through these programs, a community will be created where students can thrive, feel comfortable and have fun.

Primary Responsibilities:
    1. Develop and implement an interactive and engaging curriculum for incoming freshmen including a final project or performance
    2. Monitor participants academic progress through monthly individual meetings with freshman students enrolled in the program
    3. Encourage academic progress with regular reviews of students’ schedules, test scores, and each cycle’s report card and instituting an incentive program
    4. Individual short - term crisis counseling as needed
    5. Document and track student progress to share with program administration and staff
    6. Connect students to resources within the after school program, school and supporting agencies as needed
    7. Cultivate and maintain community and school partnerships to enhance programming
    8. Coordinate and chaperone monthly special events and fieldtrips to enhance programming
    9. Help provide a safe positive environment for youth by ensuring school safety protocol is met and students are supervised at all times
    10. Submit all required paperwork including participant enrollment form, attendance sheets, and monthly activity plan log in a timely manner
    11. Supervise and assist student mentors
    12. Develop student leaders to support active student engagement in program design
    13. Develop recruitment and outreach strategy with Program Director to ensure regular student attendance in activities.
    14. Assure that any areas used by our program are left clean and tidy when activities are complete
    15. Attend monthly staff meetings mandatory

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Master of Social Work degree
• Experience with facilitating activity based, skill development youth programs is a plus
• Significant experience working with high school youth in an after school setting is a plus
• Excellent organizational skills, skilled at long term planning
• Ability to modify program plans
• Enthusiasm about working with teens with and without disabilities.
• Ability to take initiative and work collaboratively
• Ability and willingness to commit to entire program and program philosophy
• High degree of motivation and creativity
• Ability and willingness to have fun in the classroom
• Excellent writing and verbal communication and group facilitation skills a must
• Excellent organizational and planning skills
• Must be punctual
