Patients, family members, and health professionals commonly think that the journey to recovery from breast cancer ends when the surgery, reconstruction, chemotherapy, and radiation treatments are finished. They are surprised to discover that the next chapter, survivorship, is about to unfold. This presentation focuses on the findings of a qualitative research study about the process of breast cancer survivorship that highlight the significance of survivorship as a biopsychosocial healing process that has therapeutic implications for patients, their families, and health professionals.
