Scopus Trial

NYU is now trialing the Scopus database. You may recall that we’ve trialed this product before, but it has now expanded its coverage to include the social sciences as well as science and technology.

We’re interested in evaluating this new coverage, and we need as many of you as possible to try it out and give your opinions. (It’s a large and very expensive database!) So try your favorite searches on it. Challenge it as much as you can, and then let us know what you think.

To access our trial account please go to http://www.scopus.com.

Once you have had a chance to try it, please feel free to email your comments to kara.whatley@nyu.edu.

Laura:

Is the fact that this is a trial the reason I get an error message every time I click on the "NYU Health Sci" link to access the actual content?

Overall, I like the simplicity of the search function and the way that searches are saved.

I don't feel like the database is particularly strong in the social sciences - some of my test searches on music AND sociology were not turning up as much I know to be out there in the universe of articles in that area. On the other hand, my searches on 'social informatics' were quite successful, more than in other databases I have used (like jstor, where that field has some overlap but not complete congruence).

JAC:

Thanks for the feedback, Laura. The "NYU Health Sci" button, which currently is broken, supposedly links to the NYU medical library's resources, not Bobst's. I'll look into why that is. Thanks again!
