Blogs on the blog

Hey everybody, as some of you might know I have my own blog that used to be updated daily until I ran into web complications. I'm hoping to find a way to fix it by the end of February. In the mean time I still continue to go to about 4 or 5 blogs every few days. I've always enjoyed the idea of a photoblog because it keeps you shooting, and I enjoy keeping up with other's because you never know if that days post will be a mediocre shot or one that blows you away.

The first one I started to keep up with is Durham Township because of her week-long post about an abandoned steel factory. Most of her photographs are taken in and around her town of Durham Township, Pennsylvania. It's interesting because its such a different lifestyle from what we're used to. All about farming, the country side, county fairs...

Here's one from the series I mentioned:

Blog: http://www.durhamtownship.com/

Rather than click "Best Pictures" I think it's best to go to the archive and just look at thumbnails of every photo each month.

The next one I started to follow is not very popular but it's called "the narrative." I can guess that most people will not like this one, but I think this guy has a certain quality about his photographs that just leave something to the imagination.

He, unlike the others, posts completely randomly. I don't check it often because sometimes there will be months between posts but when he does there will all of a sudden be 100 new photographs. Definitely click "thumbnails (all)" to see the rather extensive archive of his uploads.

One of my favorites: http://www.thenarrative.net/archive/001525.php

Although, the title of that one could be one of the reasons I enjoy it so much, hahaha

Next up is one that's completely different but I think is of use to any and all of us. It's called the "New York Daily Photoblog." The pictures are not beautiful, they do what they're supposed to, simply show you what Brian describes.

He actually lives on Washington Square Park and his blog has gotten a ton of recognition because it's so very useful. Every day he posts about some aspect of New York City, whether it's a restaurant you should visit, the history of the New Year's eve ball, the history behind buildings, one specific apartment, an event, a person, etc. It really is extensive and I've found it to be a tool I use to discover the many aspects of the city. It took me a little while to get into because at first it seemed like so much text and I couldn't imagine what was its worth. However, I guarantee if you just go through and start reading you'll soon be checking it every day. It's good to know your surroundings.

Interesting fact: I've learned the name of a homeless person (that I used to pass everyday) and their story through the blog.

I've also learned the name and story behind some of the characters that used to always stroll through Washington Square.

This next one is another that people may or may not like. I'll admit that his posts seem to be hit or miss, I either really enjoy the photographs or I extremely dislike them. What mainly astonishes me is his extensive post-processing capabilities.

For example, taking this picture: http://www.chromasia.com/iblog/archives/rolling_in.php

and turning it into this: http://www.chromasia.com/iblog/archives/0712142059.php

There are more dramatic examples but I think that is the most recent.

He also has some very useful tutorials, but they are not free.

This last one is probably the most famous photoblog on the Internet so you have probably already heard of it.

Daily dose of imagery, the guy is from Ontaro so its nice to see views of a different city. Somehow between his work he manages to shoot and post a picture every day.

His blog has become so popular that he's now selling books and showing in galleries.

Its interesting though because he has some "off" periods that will last for over a week, but then he'll post something thats astounding.

One of my more recent favorites: http://wvs.topleftpixel.com/07/09/06/

I hope someone starts to follow at least one of these sites, so I can have someone to talk to about it.
