There is a restaurant, located in the East Village of New York City, called Caracas Arepa Bar. It's on 7th Street at 1st Avenue, and they serve Venezuelan arepas.
So for lunch today I had arepas @ Caracas. The picture displays "la sureña" (the southern arepa), with parchita juice (passion fruit). La sureña consists of the corn-based arepa, filled with chicken, beef, and chorizo, and slices of avocado; I added some salsa picante. This is one of my favorite places to eat, even if they are loisaida-small.
Around the corner from Caracas is Ruben's Empanadas, another favorite of mine.
Una bandeja típica colombiana.
It took a Colombian person moving to the Bronx before I found a Colombian food restaurant in the Boogie Down.
Yes, it was delicious.
In the photo above, the traditional platter, with sweet plantain, rice and beans, pork, beef, avocado, arepa (por supuesto) and a fried egg!
