C. Cybele Raver Receives Griffiths Research Award for Educational Policy Research on Head Start

C. Cybele Raver, a professor in the Department of Applied Psychology, is the recipient of Steinhardt 2009 Griffiths Research Award for “Targeting Children’s Behavior Problems in Preschool Classrooms: A Cluster-Randomized Trial, an article published in The Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology (2009), and co-written with Stephanie M. Jones, Christine Li-Grining, Fuhua Zhai, Molly Metzger and Bonnie Solomon.

Raver directs Steinhardt’s Institute of Human Development and Social Change. Her research focuses on young children and families facing economic hardship, and examines the mechanisms that support children's positive outcomes in the policy contexts of welfare reform and early intervention. In the article, Raver and her Chicago School Readiness Research team provide compelling evidence that Head Starts can take a set of clear, concrete steps to support young children’s behavioral adjustment and school readiness.

The Griffiths Research Award is presented annually to a faculty member whose research makes a major contribution to his or her discipline. The award was established in 1983 to honor the vision of former Steinhardt dean, Daniel E. Griffth, and recognizes faculty members for their research in advancing their fields of knowledge and professional practice.
